Educating at home has always been a part of families, and we naturally teach our littles ones from the time they are born. We see today that it is necessary to at least supplement our children's education the majority of the time. Many people have turned to educating at home on a full time basis. But whatever your particular situation is, children need to learn a foundation for peace, ethics and morality... and home seems to be where this type of education is most available (and most encouraged). I believe that our current public school situation could be turned around by giving children MORE education and not busy work, challenging them and not labeling them "gifted" "special ed", "mainstream". All children are exceptionally smart and curious. They deserve to be recognized for their individuality and capabilities. In a normal school competitive environment, in which whom has the most stylish sneekers seems to be more important than anything else; we cannot and must not put the responsibiltiy of educating and molding our child's mind on a school, indeed some would argue that we should not do this at all. Remember that educating (even for parents) is power. Children absorb everything, good and bad! We must not just go with the flow because that is what everyone does. Examine the options. Know what a new experience may hold for your child. Check in with your child often, explore feelings and experiences together. After you have read some and discussed with others, always keeping an open mind... follow your feelings and your heart.
Educating at home (even in the evening), is an adventure, a journey and a constant lesson in love, freedom and opportunities. The growth that takes place inside you (the parent) is uncomparable! I find it important to have a page dedicated to spiritual educating because it's so needed in today's world. Located below are various resource links that the Spiritual educating family may enjoy. If you homeschool, unschool or supplement, a good start is to use Waldorf education basics and then add other spiritual lessons/books as you go. In our family, we thrive on Waldorf and Montessori principles with the Unity.org spiritual curriculum for children with good amounts of these meditation Cds and books that allow us to dream and daydream!
